Thank you to all families who have shared their lives with us this Term. It would be terrific to continue with this next Term. If you would like to introduce your family to our school community, I encourage you to complete our survey. It takes just five minutes, and who knows what new friendships may be discovered. The survey has been sent to families via Seesaw. You can also access the survey using the QR code below.
We look forward to Getting to know a little more about our Community.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with Mrs Perre.
Baptism and First Reconciliation
Last Monday, our parish hosted a beautiful and unique double sacramental celebration of Baptism and First Reconciliation. Congratulations to Nicola, Lucia, Anna, and Angus Centofanti, together with Florence Koch, on celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism and becoming members of our holy family for the first time. We also congratulate all students who celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. Reconciliation is our healing Sacrament of forgiveness, and we ask for God's mercy and are forgiven for the times we hurt others and God.
Loving God,
We ask for your blessings upon our Sacramental children. Guide them in their faith journeys. Help us to teach our children that you love us totally and unconditionally. Help us to encourage our children to grow in love and to llive in the spirit of Jesus, sharing your compassion and love with all of the world. Give us the courage to pray with our children and to share our faith with them as we journey together.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Holy Week Plays
Congratulations to all of the students on their reverent performances of our Holy Week Plays. Thank you to the parents and community members who watched our performance. Our school retold the Passion of Christ from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem until his final breath on the cross. Jesus' body was laid in a tomb, and a heavy stone was rolled across.
This year we were able to return after our Easter weekend to complete the story with the resurrection of Jesus, performed by our year 5/6 class. It is always a deep and meaningful way to remember the most important story of our Catholic tradition and share our faith with the wider Community.

Easter Wishes

APRIM

As we come to the end of Term 1, I give thanks for the hard work and dedication that all of our staff have shown this year. We have been fortunate to have been impacted less by the challenges presented by the ongoing pandemic this year, and look forward to continued opportunities throughout the rest of the year.
This term we have had NAPLAN in Term 1 for the first time. While this was a change for everyone, it was good to get it done early and we look forward to receiving our results earlier too, which will give us more time to use the data this year to drive improvement. Well done to the year 3 and 5 students and teachers for their efforts with this.
We have also had a number of SAPSASA events and our students have performed very well at these. Our students have shown great skills, enthusiasm and sportsmanship and come away with some great results. Well done to Mr Canavan for his organisation and teachers and ESOs who have supported this.
Last week our students presented our Easter Play. They showed great reverence and respect presenting the story of the last week of Jesus’ life. Each class should be proud of their efforts in learning the songs and script and performing with the necessary reverence that the story needs. Well done to the students and teachers for their efforts. It was a wonderful and moving way to enter the Easter weekend.
A couple of weeks ago, I was fortunate to take two of our students, Ishmeet and Jasreet, to Port Pirie for the Chrism Mass, where the oils used in Baptism and Confirmation are blessed in a grand service at St Mark’s Cathedral. Bishop Karol was joined by all of the priests in the diocese, as well as representatives from each school, for the occasion. This was a fantastic experience for our students to be part of.
I wish all families a wonderful time in the school holidays. The students have all had a great first term and many are ready for a break to recharge ready for Term 2. A reminder that we have a Student Free Day on Monday 1st May for Staff Professional Development, and Term 2 commences on Tuesday 2nd May. Have a great break!

This term in science we have been learning about the Water Cycle and the three main processes of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.
We learnt that:
- Evaporation is when the water from the sea, river, puddles, ponds, or the ground rises as a gas because the sun has heated it up.
- Condensation is when the gaseous water connects and makes a cloud.
- Precipitation is when the clouds get too heavy and can’t hold any more water, so the water falls to the ground as rain, hail, snow, or sleet.
It is a cycle because the process repeats over and over again! Did you know the Earth has been recycling water for over 4 billion years?!
We made some posters to show the water cycle process.
In Religion we have been learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and forgiveness. We have listened to the Story of Zaccheaus and The Lost Sheep to help us understand God’s love and forgiveness. Students re-told the Story of Zaccheaus from his perspective by voice recording on their laptops.

Riverland Athletics Carnival
The Riverland Athletics Carnival was held on 29th of March at Loxton High School. OLOR had 18 students competing across many athletic disciplines. The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to perform on a dedicated athletic track, socialise with other students from schools across the Riverland and share successes in many personal bests being achieved on the day. OLOR competed well in all their nominated events on the day. The school was lucky enough to place FIRST in points for schools in our category. We now have a lovely shield to proudly display in our cabinet to remind us of our fantastic efforts. Thank you to Miss Stewart and Kailey for taking the students and supervising them, ensuring they made it to their events. It was great to see some parents able to come and watch their children on the day too!

The Year 5/6 students were involved in the Riverland Hockey Carnival at Glassey Park on Wednesday 12th of April. Miss Stewart and Brad coached the team brilliantly and the team remained unbeaten throughout the day with no goals scored against them. Well done OLOR for taking out top place for the Carnival we now have a lovely pennant to display in our trophy cabinet! Thank you to the parents who came and supported the students on the day.
Term 1 Sport
Congratulations to a great term in representative sport OLOR. We have competed highly at Swimming, Athletics, Football and Hockey. OLOR has come back with first place in Athletics for Medium Schools and equal First place at the Hockey Carnival. We have had many students qualify for Riverland representation in statewide competition. We look forward to Netball, Cross Country and Soccer Carnivals in Term 2. We are also planning towards our Sports Day in Term 3, our first at St. Francis of Assisi in Renmark.

This term in The Arts we have been having great fun and making plenty of mess in the name of creativity! Students have developed skills and created a number of masterpieces this term. A few examples of our work are featured below.
Next term we will continue to put these creativity skills to the test as we undertake the Berri Barmera Council Recycling Challenge. Please save your recycling (cardboard, bottle lids, containers and more) over the holidays for our students to use next term to create their recycled artworks.
