Year 3 and 4 Class Mass
On Thursday the Yea3/4 students hosted a beautiful Mass, themed on the importance of loving our neighbours. Our neighbours are not only those who are situated right next door to us, they encompass so much more. Our neighbours can be our brothers and sisters in our local community or in our global community. To love is to serve. To serve lovingly our brothers and sisters, especially those who are in need in our midst. By serving others we express an authentic love to God and live our authentic Call to Community.
Olor Share The Warmth Blanket Appeal
We extend a huge thank you to everyone for their support of our blanket appeal. Mr Fewster was most appreciative of the blankets that will be passed on to those in need in our local community.
Minni Vinnies
The Year 5/6 class have been invited to participate in our OLOR Mini Vinnies program. The class visited the St. Vincent de Paul headquaters, where Mr. Fewster told them all about the good works that St. Vincent de Paul Society does in our local community. The students were then invited to register their interest to help with packing food packages to be distributed to those in need in our local community. We have a very generous group of senior students as every student volunteered to be a part of the program.

SOUTHERN CROSS
The current edition of the Catholic newspaper put out by the Archdiocese called,' The Southern Cross,' is available at; The Southern Cross June 2023 (adobe.com)
Last Sunday, the Catholic Church celebrated the central doctrine of Christian faith: the Most Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity is a uniquely Christian expression of God. The belief in the Trinity is the belief that there are three ‘persons’ in the one Godhead: God as Father and creator revealed in the Old Testament, God made human as Jesus the Son and together wiith the Holy Spirit, the Trinity is complete. Essentially, the Trinity is a mystery and the most central mystery of the Church. We remember the Trinity each time we make the sign of the Cross.
This coming weekend The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is commemorated in the Catholic Church. This feast day celebrates the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. In the time of Jesus, people believed that if you shared a meal with someone in their home, then you were also sharing something of their life. Even today, sharing a meal with another person is a sign of acceptance. When we gather to celebrate the Eucharist, we recall the Last Supper and the words Jesus spoke to the disciples when he blessed the bread and wine and asked them to continue to share bread and wine in Memory of him. Jesus came to make the world a better place and to share his vision of the reign of God with us. In celebrating the Eucharist, we make Jesus present in our lives.
Sacraments
The Sacraments are significant moments in our lives as Catholics. Each of these moments is a unique celebration that encourages us to be good Christians and inspires us to be the best versions of ourselves. The Sacrament of First Holy Communion is about becoming a member of the Catholic Church. In this Sacrament, our students will receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time. It will remind them they are part of a large family, connected to all through sharing this sacred meal. How fitting that Jack Burnett celebrates the Sacrament of First Holy Community on this weekend. We wish Jack every blessing on his sacramental journey.
Father in Heaven,
We ask for your blessings on Jack as he celebrates the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist for the fist time. May his hearts be opened to Jesus as his helper and guide. May he may come to know Jesus’ as a forever friend, always calling him to fullness of life in his loving service.
Amen

APRIM

The cooler winter weather and rain reminds us of the ongoing cycle of the seasons and the change that is always happening around us. As the leaves fall off of trees and the ground becomes damp and muddy, we know that in a few months it will all be different again as nature grows, changes and develops. Hopefully it hasn’t dampened too many plans for this upcoming long weekend.
Like the seasons, we are always aware of the changes going on with our students. Foundations are learning to read, spell and write, and Year 6s are growing up too fast for most families to keep up with. At school, these changes are also often seasonal and things change and renew as the year goes on. Supporting our children through these changes is something we are always mindful of, and we celebrate the new growth, as well as seeing changes as a chance for growth and renewal.
This weekend we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi (or the Body of Christ). It is such a great weekend on which to celebrate the sacrament of First Communion. This year Jack Burnett is our only candidate for First Communion, and we wish Jack and his family all the best for this special occasion. They have been involved in many weeks of renewing commitment to the parish through Bishop Karol’s reimagined Sacramental program, where the family is celebrated as part of the ongoing spiritual formation of the child.
Teachers have begun preparing Semester Reports for the students in their classes. This involves finalising assessments, tracking ongoing progress, as well as measuring achievement against expected learning outcomes at particular year levels. These will be distributed at the end of Week 9 and are designed to give parents a formal update on their children’s progress and achievement. As always, we encourage parents to contact class teachers with any concerns about learning or progress throughout the year.
Do you know anyone who is due to start school next year that might be interested in coming to OLOR? If so, get them to get in contact with us as we would love them to come to Bright Starts from next term to get to know the school. Bright Starts is a great way for students to get used to the school environment and learn some of the routines and structures that are a bit different to what they may have encountered at kindy or childcare. It is also a great way for the school to get to know the students before they start in Foundation, so we can manage the supports they might need and put things in place to make sure that their school experience is a positive one.

Last Friday, the Year 2/3 class had their first assembly of the year, and they did a fantastic job. In our assembly, we shared some of our Religion learning including why the Bible is a sacred text, and shared the designs we created of our own Bibles that would be scared to us Most students drew the Earth, friends and family on their own Bibles. During our assembly, we also got to share some of our learning around national reconciliation week and the importance and significance it has on our lives today. We were honored to share our footprints, inspired by the symbolic feet cut-outs that were placed outside of the Australian Parliament House on Sorry Day in 2009. We spoke about how these cut-outs represented the movements made by many people involved in the Stolen Generation, including children being taken from their families, authorities taking children away, parents trying to find their loved ones and the next steps that need to be taken towards reconciliation.
Overall, we had a fantastic assembly are looking forward to planning another one for Term 3.

OLOR had the opportunity to play a practice match against St. Joseph’s Renmark on Friday 9th of June. Our boys' team were able to meet up with their extra players from St. Joseph’s Renmark and compete in a match against St. Joseph’s Renmark’s Yr 6 Boys team. This opportunity might be the beginning of further practice games and sporting opportunities between the two schools.
