Year 3 Monarto Camp
We travelled to Monarto Zoo, where we were immediately immersed in the safari experience.
Just on the drive in alone, we spotted many emus, kangaroos, echidnas and birdlife!
Once we arrived, we went for our own walking tour and were intrigued by the chimpanzees and how they interacted with each other. We were even lucky enough to see two babies! During this walk, we also came across white rhinos, meerkats and elephants. The students were particularly fascinated with the meerkats and how curious and cute they were.
The weather for this walk was divine, so there were lots of smiles and gratitude! Following our walk, we were lucky enough to have our own guide, who took us for a 2 hour safari bus tour where we learnt about and saw more animals than we could have ever imagined! All students were amazed at how close we were able to get to some of the animals, especially the lions and giraffes.
We then arrived at our accommodation, where students explored and got settled in. We finished the day with some shelter building competitions, a night walk and were lucky enough to even roast some marshmallows around a bonfire. All were absolutely exhausted after such a huge day of adventure!
Students awoke bright and early on Thursday, where there were more team building games and activities that really challenged their thinking. A highlight of the trip was that we then were able to practice being a Zoo Keeper, and tend to the Bison enclosure. Just by completing 10 minutes of work as a group - we saved one Zoo Keeper days of work! We felt very accomplished, and this was an educational and wholesome way to wrap up our amazing first camp together.
As a teacher, I felt absolutely privileged to see the bravery and resilience each student demonstrated throughout the camp experience and they should be very proud of themselves and the way they represented our school.
