National Simultaneous Reading - Give Me Space
The entire school gathered in the Library to take part in the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) annual event. For the first time ever, not only was the official story read by over 1 MILLION children across Australia and New Zealand, but it was also read by an astronaut from the International Space Station. The aim was to engage children of all ages to enjoy books and create a sense of excitement around reading. At OLOR, Reading is a fundamental skill that we continue to promote and we hope that this event ignited interest and fun amongst our students. Students later participated in Space themed activities set up by Sandy in the Library. Our Bright Start Transition students made some galaxy playdough and created space collages. The Story ended with a beautiful message. 'We are all travelling through space right now. The earth is our spaceship and it's the only home we've got. It is our Mission to take care of the Earth so that we can explore the universe for lightyears to come.' Philip Bunting. How fitting that the NNS story for this year coincided perfectly with Poe Francis' Laudato Si' Week.
