literacy

As we all face extra time at home I began thinking, what would be something simple that parents could do to support their child's learning?
What a great time to build your child's reading stamina! It is so important that children are able to read independently for significant periods of time,
To build reading stamina you need to set a purpose for reading and explain to your child that practise reading helps us to become better readers. You might come up with a goal together or get advice from the class teacher about an area your child may need to work on at home - this could using punctuation to regulate fluency, adapting pitch and tone to suit the meaning of the text or self correcting.
Start with a manageable time for your child, you want your child to feel successful and not exhausted from reading. Give your child some feedback after they have read, talk with your child about what they think they are doing well and could improve on.
Gradually increase the time spent reading and continue to talk about their reading together.

Just as importantly, whenever you get the chance, spend some time together sharing a book, listening to a podcast, relax with a mediation app and model using language and books as a time to chill out, unwind and look after yourselves.

Happy Reading!

St Joseph’s Day celebrations

A Liturgy of the Word was held in each class to celerbrate St Joseph's day.

'Like Saint Joseph, once we have heard God’s voice, we must rise from our slumber; we must get up and act.' (Pope Francis 2015)

Class News

The song goes “We are one but we are many...”
Being united as one has never been more important than it is today.
Staff and students have all decorated one stick to represent themselves. The sticks have been arranged together to create a nest that represents our wonderful community.
Nests are not just a sturdy vessel in which to lay eggs; they also serve to conceal eggs and nestlings from predators and protect them from the elements.
May this vessel carry us safely through these times of hardship, uncertainty and worry.
“We are many, but we are one....”

Art

Students have been working on some amazing artwork during term one, these are just a few pieces from each class.
