Wakakirri

Thursday 17th of August was the day that all of our hard work had been leading towards.

Our Wakakirri troupe hopped on the bus at 10am, accompanied by Miss D, Mr Slagter, Miss Martin and Kailey, and headed to Adelaide. After a lunch break in Truro, we arrived at the Norwood Concert Hall.

After a break for recess, we quickly began getting hair, makeup and costumes ready for our dress rehearsal. Students only had two chances to practise our routine on stage – and they did an amazing job!

Next was a student function, in which three of our students had a chance to show off their hair, makeup and costumes and another three bravely volunteered to represent our school in a dance off on stage. The rest of us got to watch in the audience and join in the dancing at the end!

Finally, our Wakakirri troupe performed their dance to the packed audience! They did a phenomenal job and should all be very proud of their hard work and dedication that went into this event.

Our school received a certificate of appreciation with a Storytelling Award for strong use of festival motif, a Production Award for overall staging and an Ensemble Award for group dance. Our school also received the award for Best Public Speaking, thanks to Siri, Jasreet and Ishmeet who delivered speeches after our performance.

A big congratulations again to everyone in Wakakirri, and a special mention to those students who were unable to join us on the day due to illness or injury, I have loved working with you all to prepare for this event!

If you would like to see our Wakakirri performance, we will be dancing at assembly next week (Friday 25th August).
