Year 5/6 Assembly
Our Year 5/6 class did an amazing job hosting the Week 3 assembly for Term 3. They all read with confidence and demonstrated responsibility and maturity throughout the whole item. The three main ‘class’ items that we presented for the school was a prayer and reflection about Mary Mackillop, a video presentation of our experiences at the Immersion day at St Francis of Assisi, and our learning about personal and core values in Social and Emotional Learning Lessons.
Prayer for Saint Mary of the Cross Mackillop:
Our prayer for assembly reflected our understanding and gratitude for St Mary of the Cross Mackillop. We conducted a whole-school prayer that was comprised of various small prayers of gratitude for Mary Mackillop, each visible with a visual reflection from each student that we discussed in class prior.
Immersion Day:
In Week 2, all Year 5 and 6 students went to St Francis of Assisi College for our final Immersion Day of the Year. During the day, students participated in three engaging lessons that included STEM, Food Technology and Wood Technology. Please see the attached video to see how much fun everyone had completing all of the activities and challenges!
Social and Emotional Learning:
In Social and Emotional Learning (S.E.L) this term, we have been learning about our core values or character strengths. Personal values are what we find important in life. They can be personal, social, relationship or material focussed. Values are like guidance markers for our belief system. They tell us what is important and in the order of priority. Ultimately, values impact how we make decisions, think and act. As a class, we brainstormed a list of values. Some values that were important to the class were respect, kindness, honesty, friendliness, humour and leadership. We then looked at over 100 values and chose 10-20 that resonated with each of us personally. Students used a website called WordArt to create an artwork to display the values that they chose. Here are some examples:
