First Reconciliation
Congratulations to Jack, Van and Jemilla who celebrated the Sacrament of First Reconciliation in St. Mary’s Church on Monday night. Another joyful as members of our school and parish community gathered to support children participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Thank you to parents for supporting your children and also to the Parish and School team, including teacher, Kimberley Rosenzweig for the planning and organisation involved.
Loving God,
We ask for your blessings upon or First Reconciliation children. Help us to teach our children that you love us totally and unconditionally. Help us to encourage our children to grow in love and to learn how to say sorry, knowing that you always forgive. Give us the courage to pray with our children and to share our faith with them as we journey together.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
Chrism Mass
Last Wednesday Confirmation candidates Madison, Jack, Nate and Aaron accompanied me and Mrs Oates to Port Pirie to attend the Chrism Mass. During the Mass, the holy oils and sacred chrism, which will be used across the Diocese throughout the year for sacraments such as baptism, confirmation and anointing of the sick was blessed by Bishop Kulczycki and distributed to parishes. It was wonderful to see many of the priests from our diocese celebrating Mass together at Saint Mark's Cathedral.
Holy Week Plays
Congratulations to all of the students on their reverent performances of our Holy Week Plays. Special thanks to Mrs. Singh and all of the students for the outstanding artwork, the hall looked amazing. Thank you to the parents and community members that were able to watch our performance. Today our school retold the Passion of Christ from his triumphant entry into Jerusalem until his final breath on the cross. Jesus’ body was then laid in a tomb and a heavy stone was rolled across.
Our plays will resume next Tuesday at 9:00am, when the Senior Students will retell the resurrection of Jesus. You are most welcome to attend to watch the joyful conclusion of our Easter plays.

APRIM
Dear Parents, Grandparents, Carers and Friends,
Thank you to every member of our beautiful school community for making our very first term so vibrant and happy. I feel privileged to be back at this fabulous school working with the staff and your children every day. May you have a Holy and happy Easter. Our next school newsletter will be on Friday, April 30.
On Wednesday, March 24, I travelled to St Mark's Cathedral, Port Pirie with our four school senior leader candidates to celebrate the Mass of Holy Oils (Chrism).
We attended the Mass with delegates from the thirteen Port Pirie Diocesan schools and a large group of priests and parishioners from across our diocese.
School Captain, Jack Hunter assisted by reading the Acknowledgement of Country beautifully in the Mass. This occasion was a chance to meet Bishop Karol and they also caught up with Bishop-Emeritus Greg O'Kelly too.
Nate Vallelonga, Maddison Pitt, Jack Hunter and Aaron Kurian will all receive the oil of Chrism at their Confirmation in September.
Staffing Announcements
Firstly, I’m pleased to announce there will be another addition to the Perre Family.
Mrs Rosemary Perre is expecting her fourth child sometime in September 2021. Her maternity leave dates are yet to be confirmed. Rosemary and Pat Perre will both be taking parental leave around Term 3 this year. Please keep Rosie and her unborn in your prayers.
With sadness, Mrs Kimberley Rosenzweig has resigned from her teaching position as the Year 2 classroom teacher as of the end of Term 1, 2021. Her resignation is due to personal reasons, and I will be advertising her position immediately, to find a suitable junior primary teacher replacement in the school holidays. We wish Kimberley well in her new endeavours.

The Year 6 class hosted the Week 9 Assembly last Thursday. In our assembly, we mixed it up and got interactive with the crowd - aka our live audience - as game show hosts Connor and Luke introduced us to “Persuade me or not!” The boys introduced special guests from the Year 6 class to share some passages from their persuasive texts and asked Emmanuel, Ollie, and Zoe to lock in their answers. Next up, Madison and Anastasia hosted “Where in the World?!” to giveaway a free Asian holiday to 3 lucky students. Our students got up and shared information about the locations – congratulations to Troy, Ally and Isac on winning their trips to Lake Baikal, The Dead Sea and Mt Damavand.
Hi all,
OLOR has had a big couple of weeks in school sport!
On Friday, March 19th, 7 students made the trip to Adelaide to compete in the South Australian Catholic Primary Schools Sports Association (SACPSSA) Swimming Carnival. We performed very well at the event given our number of competitors was smaller than the other schools. OLOR managed to break the 4x25m Medley Relay record. Additionally, Max Schubert broke both the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke record. Well done to all competitors!
I would also like to thank both Kelly Storer and Sarah Rothe for being timekeepers on the day. Your help is much appreciated once again.
Last Wednesday, 34 OLOR students travelled to Waikerie to compete in the Riverland SAPSASA Athletics Carnival. I would like to congratulate all competitors for their efforts on the day. We had some fantastic individual results and I was most impressed by the way in which each student represented the school. I would also like to thank all parents who assisted on the day. A special mention goes out to Brad for his efforts at the event.
Our final sporting event for Term 1 is the Riverland SAPSASA District Football/Netball Carnival held next Tuesday, April 6th at Loxton. We wish all competitors the best of luck!
Have a fantastic Easter everyone!
Kind regards,
Thomas Charlton

In the previous newsletter I included information about our new wellbeing program iheart. After completing of the four foundational workshops over this term I wanted to share some feedback that we have received from students. After each lesson all students are given feedback sheets that are answered anonymously to let us know how students are travelling with their learning.
'Throughout the term I have really had fun with iheart. Yesterday I couldn’t play the final cricket game and I used my logical thinking and let that feeling go.'
'Iheart is really helping me control my anger when I don't get picked for a team'
'The other day I realised I was thinking illogical and used what I had learnt in iheart lessons to help me'
'Iheart is helping me understand how I feel and think'
'iheart is really fun and it is helping me so much with my thinking and feelings.'
'The other day I didn’t get angry with my Mum for asking me to clean up my room I just got it done'
Next term the program will continue to explore the like
'No one or no thing has the power to take away your wellbeing or make you feel worried, stressed or anxious'
'When you know a future event cannot give or take away your wellbeing or put a feeling in you – worrying about it makes less sense'
'We can see things differently and still be friends '
Have a fabulous Easter break and enjoy time with friends and family.

Photograph / Video Consent Forms
A reminder could all parents please make sure they have completed the consent form sent out in January and return it to the school as soon as possible.
Thank you
Over the past couple of weeks we have had a number of students and staff who have required time at home because of ill health. As we head into the cooler months, when cold and flu symptoms are common, it is important that we are mindful of our own health and the health of others. If your child has any symptoms please do not send them to school. Cold and flu symptoms are quickly spreading and infecting others - maybe our immunity is low after the lack of contact we had over last winter.
PLEASE NOTE: Monday, April 26 is a public holiday. School begins on Tuesday, April 27.
On Tuesday, March 23, the Year 3, Year 5 and Year 7 students participated in a trial session for NAPLAN online. This session was not designed to assess student knowledge but rather the school’s technology and capability to facilitate the NAPLAN assessments online. Thank you to our NAPLAN Co-ordinator teachers, Mrs Mel Steele and Mr Luke Cotter, for the ease in which these trial tests were conducted in the school.
Please keep up to date with everything happening at Our Lady of the River School via our school newsletter. Attached with today's newsletter is a draft calendar for Term 2, 2021.
All teachers have placed in the student diaries an individual class QR Code for the Seesaw Family App, please do not use Seesaw Class. Some of us have been confused about the use of the Seesaw Class App. For now all families are all asked to check and make sure you have downloaded the 'Families' version to your mobile device.
Teachers will be using Seesaw more often from now on, with their individual classes. Using SeeSaw, protects student photos from being victimised through the sharing of photos in a more public and non-protected environment like Facebook.
Due to increases in our supplier’s major raw ingredients such as flour and margarines over the past six months, they have been forced to review their pricing and will be implementing a price increase from the 1st of April. As a result, our canteen prices will rise across the board by approximately five percent, this new pricing will take effect from the beginning of Term 2. The updated price list for Term 2 has been attached below.

Don’t forget to pay fees in full by the 9th of April 2021 to receive the 5% early bird discount.
